I got a couple of weeks ago from another Station Fire survivor who had some concerns about the upcoming hearing on October 12. Specifically, she was worried that folks might not know how to find the courthouse, parking, etc. The Richard H. Chambers Courthouse is located at 125 South Grand Avenue in Pasadena. For some people the problem may be that the courthouse is in that part of Pasadena between the 134 and 110 freeways. It’s a wonderful area for architecture and history, but the neighborhood can pose problems for the directionally challenged courtesy of streets that dead-end, change their names or don’t line up in a clean grid pattern.
The neighborhood surrounding the courthouse is mostly residential, and the courthouse itself was originally constructed as a Spanish Colonial Revival style resort known as the Vista del Arroyo Hotel and Bungalows. As another resident commented, the courthouse is the only 8-story building in the area. In spite of the fact that it’s not clearly marked, there is nothing else that big on the street. It’s pretty hard to miss.
There is a parking lot across the street, but it is for courthouse employees only. For courthouse visitors, parking is available on the street, but much of it is for two hours only.
Recommendation: Arrive early and read all signage when you park!
